Analysis of ads

Some excellent analyses folks- well done. I particularly enjoyed Hanh's , Ana's and Monica's.

The most effective advert I chose-hannah

After looking at all the 4 adverts, I chose the best advert as Pepsi, without any doubt. The reason I chose this advert is that it gives some kind of an addictive pressure on people. The powerful beat and melodies of the 3 singers gets stuck on our minds so much that it makes us sing it without even thinking. Also, the hot, sunny background matches up perfectly with the cool, icy feeling of Pepsi. Surely, everyone will want to drink a cold, icy drink in that much hot summer. The sinario also, hooks up my mind. If the sinario was boring, I would have been just turning on another channels than wait in this same old channel. However, the Colosseum with 3 pop singers to fight each other? (In the start) I would like to watch and have a look at it. Finally, I can proudly say that the most effective part of this advertisement is the song 'We Will Rock You'. Lots of people who has enough money to buy a TV knows Queen's song. This song especially, has been spread wide across the world, so as soon as people heard this song, people would like to hear it more, as the song is very familiar and friendly to them.

The Most Effective Advert

Out of the four different adverts, i thought the Pepsi advert was the most effective one because its showing a fizzy drink that a lot of people can enjoy both males and females.
One very good technique that they used was using 3 female singers recognized by a lot of teenage people and some elders. They used Pink, Britney Spears and Beyonce. They sing "we will rock you" because they want to get the Pepsi that is next to the emperor (Enrique Iglesias). He was drinking Pepsi and so the 3 gladiators wanted the Pepsi, they sing and clap their hand so then they can some how push the pepsi and drink it. then the pepsi jumps and also Enrique Iglesias jump and a lion come from behind. The box of pepsi fell on top of a lot of ice suggesting that is better when you drink it cold and fresh.
Also like Pepsi is a very cheap drink and also anyone can buy it.

The Most Effective Advert

In my opinion, i think the most effective one is the advert for Pepsi. This advert aims to sell a fizzy drink which majority of people can enjoy.
The plot is easy to understand: Three female gladiators are supposed to be fighting in a hot day but they start to sing when they come out to the arena instead. The crate of Pepsi starts to jump off in the beat of the song. The King falls off afterward and a lion walks towards him foreshadowing something horrible will happen while the three gladiators and the audience enjoy the Pepsi.
Some great techniques are used in this advert, one of them is using celebrities. They use some really famous singers - Pink, Beyoncé Knowles and Britney Spears - as the main characters - the three gladiators. A large number of teenager is fans of these three singers so they would buy the product for a matter of fact that their idols are in the commercial. These stars are also attractive to men so that if they buy this they would probably have a beautiful lady with them. Women would like to drink Pepsi to be as attractive as the three celebrities. Humour is also used at the end of the advert - the king and the lion. The jingle is wisely chosen. A famous song called 'We Will Rock You' is used. The song suggest that if you drink Pepsi, it will rock you or maybe your world. The song helps a lot in the plot. The song has a very powerful beat and the crate of Pepsi falls off for this reason. Usage of image is wisely consider. For example the Pepsi in the crate doesn't fall on the hot sand but the ice showing that Pepsi is always refreshing even if it is the hottest day ever.
This advert is for a very wide target audience. All gender, age and class can buy this product because it's suitable and cheap so that everyone can buy.

The Most Effective Commercial

Out of the four different commercials, I thought that the Chanel one was the most effective because it was like a mini movie that attracts many people's attention. No. 5 perfume is aimmed more towards women in their 30s to 40s. Because Chanel is a high-end brand, the people that would buy it would be couple of the richest middle class people and the high class. Some men might watch this commerical and buy it for their wives becaues they want them to smell nice. (Not that they smelled bad before.) Lots of people like to watch movies and I think the layout is interesting. Another technique that was used was that they used a famous star, Nicole Kidman. They also paired her up with a good-looking man which implies that if you wear this perfume, No◦ 5, you can start dating good looking men or become more attractive to men. They are trying to sell a lifestyle to their views and customers. This is why I thought the Chanel commercial was the most effective out of the four.

The most effective advert by Hanh.

After seeing the Adverts that Mr.Pollicutt showed us in class a few days ago, I decided that the Pepsi Advert was the most effective even though my favorite ad was the Sony Bravia comercial with the colourful balls bouncing down the streets of San Francisco with a great song in the background.
There are quite a few celebrities in this Pepsi commercial .There's Britney Spears, Beyonce and P!nk which are 3 famous female singers in 3 different genres. Their fans are mostly teenagers (that are girls) or maybe young adults. The emperor ( who was sitting on the balcony ,drinking pepsi) is Enrique Iglesias. Although he is not as notable. In the crowds, there is also Brian May and (maybe Roger Taylor) from Queen banging the drum. The music in the background ( We Will Rock You) is also a very well-known song from the band.
We're so familiar to the song to the point that in the beginning, when the singers were making the beats of the song, you just know what song they're going to play in the background. During Beyonce's part of the song, she added more vibes and a RnB-ish, Pop-ish touch to the song and there is also more beats and tempos to it, so that maybe her fans can enjoy the song better and people who aren't big fans of rock can maybe listen to her version of the song . Men from their 20s to late 40s or even early 50s can also watch this ad.The way the 'producers' showed the crate of pepsi everytime there is a 'loud' beat ( which eventually slid down to the 3 fighters) makes the product relate to the song and the Ad more. It also focuses more on what they're trying to sell, having a large crate of Pepsi also tell that Pepsi is the product they're selling and remind people that this ad is about Pepsi.
The crate of Pepsi slid down , the pepsis felt on top of lots of ice, suggesting that the drink is fresh and refreshing for a hot day like in the Ad ( as the women were sweating). At the end, there is some humour when the king felt down and the enormous lion entered the arena.
This comercial is a great way of selling its product and it is also really entertaining to watch even though the comercial is too long, which will cost a fortune to air it on television.
A can of Pepsi is cheap, all class can afford one . I'd actually buy this product after seeing the comercial if i get a chance, infact, people buys packets of softdrinks everyday.

The most effective advert

After watching those adverts in English, I have come to decide the most effective advert, to me at least: without a doubt, it's Pepsi. I'm sure everyone would agree with me on this point when I saw the mood in everyone's faces. What could have made that advert so effective ?
Well firstly, the advert outranks all of the others in celebrities, this advert feature THREE globally famous singers : Britney Spears, Pink and Beyonce, now not that I'm a fan of any of these singers but I'm pretty sure most of the girls would get hooked to the advert and shout like mad, these three have left an unforgettable footprint in almost every girls' heart, plus most of them would try to "be" like one of these celebrities, in the end they would buy Pepsi to drink like how their idols drinking it in the advert. But that's not all, the market audience expands to men from 20 - 45 years old, not only that their armored bikinis attracted the eyes of adult men but their gestures and dancing moves also quirk some excitement in men' eyes, also the women in the arena could foreshadow or promise one thing: "If you drink Pepsi then you would get wild women in the ad", making the men glued to the idea of buying the product.
Next, the opening of the coliseum was kinda impressive, hinting great battles and suspenses, making some people "glued to their sets". The Pepsi is noticeable and clearly in a dull background, thus when the king got jumped on the lion was kinda humorous so it would attract more people who like jokes. I also noticed that how the camera always repeated showing the Pepsi box, unlike the other adverts which only showed the product at the ended, these images would be stuck in the audience's head because of constantly repetition. Furthermore, the song that was sang in the advert is "We will rock you", a famous, popular and tuneful song that would again, making the audience's eyes sticking to the TV til the advert ends.
Last but not least, unlike other products, Pepsi is VERY cheap ( 5 or 10 thousands dong for a can in Vietnam) so it's suitable for all classes, all ages, rich and poor, etc. If you don't believe me then, would you rather buy a Pepsi can or the expensive Sony Bravia TV ? Your choice.

The most effective advert in my opinion by Monica.

Out of the four entries we saw in class today, my personal faivourite was the Sony one which was advertising the television but the most effective one to a wider audience is in my opinion the Pepsi advert. This is because firstly, it featured three internationally famous celebrities which beats the number of celebrities used in the other adverts. Although I'm not a fan of any of them, the point is that there are thousands of people (teenage girls in particular) who are and would drink whatever their idol drinks because they're 'wannabes'. Futhermore, the large majority of men from the age of 20 to 40 would find the female celebrities attractive or even gorgeous since they're practically wearing almost nothing at all except a few pieces of armour that look more like bikinis. In addition, at the arena foreshadowed fighting, death, blood and action so it would make the audience eager to watch more.

The music used in the Pepsi advert (We will rock you... music) was also a very popular song that everyone knows and the camera kept on coming back to the huge crate of Pepsi can which eventually slid right off the Emperor's balcony straight onto a massive mound of ice.The other adverts didn't emphasise on the company/product name as much as this one so the word Pepsi is drilled into the audience's mind due to constant repetition. All the other adverts only mentioned the actual product at the very end. The constrast between the ice and blazing hot sand made the Pepsi cans look immensly cool and refreshing, therefore making the product more appealing. The colour of the Pepsi logos on the cans really stood out againt the dull background, making it very eye-catching too. Lastly, almost anyone, even the poorer families, can still afford a bottle of Pepsi whilst if you compare it to the products, only the wealthy can purchase genuine Chanel no. 5 perfume, Guiness or a decent salary to acquire a brand new TV.

The most effective advert- Pepsi

For me, I think the most effective advert is Pepsi because it contains many features in the advert that I like such as celebrities, background music, settings... The celebrities are well known from the end of 20th century towards this year so it might be attracted with people at my age. The background music is great. It was once stood on the Billboard chart many years ago. The setting is set in a place like Colosseum in Italy so people would think that this advert is a legend. There's quite a humor in the advert like when the king fell off the seat and suddenly a lion came out. It was supposed to be the three gladiators to fight versus the lion but then they dropped their weapons and sang the song. The logo isn't showed much in the advert. The main focus is just on the three singers. It just showed at the start when the king is waiting for the performance but the crate was pounding every time the song hits the beats. The slogan appears at the end with the phrase 'Dare for More'. I would buy this product because as all the other teenage girls want to do what their idols do.

my favourite Advert- Pepsi

In my opinion, the advert that i think is most interesting because there is the music that i knew before and there are some of my favourite celebrity in there.
the way they start the advert is very excited. Also the way the pepsi fall from the king area down to the ice and the lion came out. it was suppose to be the 3 gladiators fight against the furious lion but instead they put their weapons down and sing the song "we'll rock you!" This made me curious in the ending how the king can battle the ferocious lion.
Furthermore, the way they make the ice fall on the ice makes us suggest that it is a hot day and everyone like to drink pepsi. That's the reason why i like it and think the audience would fell for pepsi too if they're outside in the hot boiling day.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Set in the future, in a country named Panem built upon present-day North America, an annual TV programme called "The Hunger Games" is about to take place. Each year, two tributes ( a boy and girl between the age of 12 and 18) are chosen to participate in one epic and bloody battle from each of the remaining twelve districts. Basically, there is only one main rule in the arena that the tributes must obey: KILL OR BE KILLED. The last person standing is the victor and will be basked in glory and endless amounts of prizes. As for the others, it'll either be a quick short-cut to afterlife or an agonizing death. When Prim Everdeen is selected from district twelve against all odds, her sixteen year old sister, Katniss, courageously steps forward to take her place in order to save her. But how long can Katniss last before she's slaughtered? Will she ever return alive?
I'd recommend this novel to all who enjoy novels filled with combat, suspense and action. There's a bit of romance but that's part of their strategy...

Uglies by Scott Westerfield

In Tally's world, anyone normal is considered as an 'ugly'. Like everyone else, she simply can't wait until she turns sixteen, the day when uglies are transformed through high-tech cosmetic surgery into absolutely gorgeous pretties. Elegant, stylish pretties with no physical flaws, sparkling eyes flecked with gold or whatever colour you choose, smooth skin, perfect lips and so much more. In New Pretty Town, all you have to do is enjoy exhilarating fun in whatever form you choose; throwing a party at your mansion for example or ice skating as late as you want. Then Tally meets Shay, who isn't certain like most that she actually wants to undergo the operation. When Shay escapes from Uglyville into the unknown regions, Special Circumstances (the authorities) demand that Tally betray her friend by telling them everything she knows about Shay's plans or never become pretty. The decision Tally settles on alters the course of her life forever and she discovers that there's more to being pretty than what just meets the eye.
This novel was quite enjoyable, don't worry it's not about fashion or girly stuff at all. As you read, you get to observe how Tally's mountain of lies grow and grow by the "snowball" effect until her false pretence collapses into ruins.

I am David

File:Iamdavidnovel.jpg
I just finished reading this book and I am gonna say : I make this my personal favorite. Why ? I am David is the most moving, compassionate book I've ever read. The story begins with David, a boy who has been spending his life on a concentration camp in somewhere over Europe. He didn't know anything about him, where he comes from nor his real parents, not even why he was at the camp. He only acknowledges one thing: His name is David. One day, the man (whom he prefers not to call by name and whom he hates so much) has arranged for his escapement. The electric current is switched of from the fence for only 30 seconds, long enough for David to escape. He was only given some bread and water. He is told to head south to Salonica, going for the ship that would arrive in Italy, then moving on to Denmark. Along his journey, he was mistreated by some people and sometimes well-treated by a few people. Spending his time isolating in the camp, David has repressed his feelings, when his mentor Johannes died, David has told himself to trust no one, so he feels lost and lonely in this world. When he was in Switzerland, a woman has shown the picture of his mother, thus making him desperate to return to Denmark. Acrossing the journey, David has learned that some people can be trusted and gradually he opens up his feeling.
What makes me interested in the story that is David's special characteristics, although he's only 12 years old, David acts like a mature nobleman. His views of people, of objects, of the worlds are strange, intense and mature, also, his views can tell us something we don't know about the human's nature : evil, love, loneliness, fear. Sometimes we can learn something about ourself and our world. This story reflected the world in 1960s where the World War II took place, David's story represents the massive persecution during the World War II, this makes David a powerful figure, making him even more real. The story is readable and easy to understand, I would recommend this book to everyone from 8 upons. Although the book is for children, there are some mature thoughts aswell.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The last chapter in Harry's long, epic adventure. Following Dumbledore's death, Voldemort has taken over the Ministry of Magic. This means he can take over Hogwarts, realizing the trouble has taken another step upon him, Harry, Ron and Hermione, each drops out of the school. They must finish what Dumbledore has left behind : destroying Voldemort's Horcruxes. They go alone, isolating themselves for their friends and family' safety. Across the adventure, they run into Xenophillius Lovegood, who tells them about the Deathly Hallows. The Hallows are revealed to by three mystical objects : the Elder Wand, the permanent Invisibillity Cloak and the Resurrection Stone. Harry figures that Voldemort are aftering the Elder Wand himself. Using the Resurrection Stone, Harry is able to see his parents again, sharing some dear moments with them, who tells Harry to be strong and go against Voldemort. He has to finish this once and for all. So who will live ? Who will die?
Throughout of the book, readers will experience Harry's struggles with his friendship with Ron and Hermione. You can watch Harry's fears over Ginny's fate, anxious of seeing her beloved face again for he doesn't know if he will her again or not, you will have to read the book to know Snape's real nature. Once again, Rowling's precise writing skills has impressed me, the characters' mood are well displayed and easy to pictured. I love how Harry's thoughts are portrayed in this book, they're very real and sometimes naive, sometimes mature. Also, I like how the scene where Harry and Dumbledore shares a moment with each other as teacher and pupil, I think it's the best moment in the series for its lovable nature and wise atmosphere. Too bad this is the last book in the series, but I'm still waiting for the prequel. I describe this book as "A decisive ending to the HP series".

Brian Jacques: The Pearls of Lutra

This story is another in the series of Redwall (surprise, surprise). In the beginning, a army of corsairs and sea rats attacked and destroyed the small fort of Lutra, in order to steal the Pearls of Lutra, huge creamy rose coloured Pearls, for there hypnotic master, 'Mad Eyes'. But on the way back a rat took the gems from the ships and ran away, leaving the others to face the wrath of the crazy weasel. Finding the gems gone, Mad Eyes sent his army of monitor lizards to do the deed. Meanwhile, the rat makes his way to Redwall and befriend a old squirrel who helps him hide the gems around the abbey with clues that only the cleverest and bravest animals could follow. When the evil lizards arrive in Mossflower forest they secretly kidnap the abbot and a young hedgehog and ask for the gems in return for them. while three abbey-dwellers search for the pearls, Martin of Redwall takes chase of the lizards and finds the only suriver from Lutra who has also sworn to kill the corsairs together they set off to a lonley island on which the fort of Mad Eyes stands...

and remember, REDWALL RULES!!!

Brian Jacques: Salamandastron

A tale of Redwall (my favorite series), Salamandastron is all about the mountain stronghold of that name. The animals that live there consist many of hares with a great badger lord to lead them. When a huge army of weasels arrive, headed by the infamous Ferahgo the Assassin, a bitter war starts between them...

Also, hundreds of miles away two rats enter the peaceful abbey of Redwall, bringing with them the deadly Dryditch Fever. The otter Thugg, one of the few not taken to the illness, sets of with a young dormouse named Dumble to find the rumored remedy made of the rare and protected Flowers of Icetor in hope to save their friends...

i most defiantly recommend any book in the Redwall series , IT RULES!!!

Crocodile Tears- By Monica

Trouble stalks fourteen-year-old Alex Rider wherever he goes.Forcibly recruited after his uncle's sudden death by the MI6, this is his eighth mission yet. Alex is enjoying a normal lifestyle and when he accompanies his friend Sabina Pleasure and her father to a charity party hosted by Reverand Desmond McCain at Kilmore Castle in Scotland on New Year's Eve, he's not expecting anything unusual. He lands himself in a game of Texas Hold'em with the host himself and somehow, out of sheer luck, Alex wins the competition- grabbing what was almost McCain's victory. Later on, as Mr.Pleasure drives them back home, a terrifying accident occurs. Miraculously, they all survive but Alex is the only one who knows that the so-called accident wasn't necessarily an unfortunate coincidence but a gunshtot fired by a marksman. Who had deliberately orchestrad this plot?

Days later, Alex is once again sent on a mission. This time to copy data from Greenfield Bio Centre where research into anitvenoms and production of GM crops is being undertaken. The MI6 suspect there's somthing fishy going on and since they don't have any rock-hard evidence, they decide that it's worth leaving no stones unturned. As Alan Blunt puts it "it's a mission hardly worth your talent" but what Alex discovers puts him once again in the path of danger.

I would reccomend it to readers who're interested in action, fighting and a little mystery combined. The plot is definitely NOT dull and will keep you captivated. This is the eighth book in the series and in a few ways the plot is similar to those of the previus ones, however, I haven't read the other books for sometime so I still enjoyed it.

My Favorite Genre

My favorite genres are classical and mystery. I enjoy reading classical books because not real, but still very much like it. Classical books are like realistic fiction books, but much older and have more meaning than normal fiction books written now. Also, I've never met anyone that didn't have a copy of Anne of Green Gables. Even though that person may not have like that book, everybody has one. Weird right?

I'm in love with mystery book. Normally, lots of thinking is put into reading a mystery novel. It goes back and forth to different people so you can get the whole entire story, from one end to the other. This can get confusing and yet hard to understand but always very fun to read. I still like normal history books as well, but prefer the more confusing ones.

I LOVE BOOKS!

My favourite genre

My favourite genres are fiction, classic, a little bit of fantasy and mostly is books that are based on our daily lives and relationships(not romance though). When i read these kind of genres, i feel like i'm one of the character in the book. I imagine that I'm the witness of the story. I often use my imagination when I read so I enjoy reading books. But sometimes, I'm quite bored of reading books. :D. Enjoy your books!
