Uglies by Scott Westerfield

In Tally's world, anyone normal is considered as an 'ugly'. Like everyone else, she simply can't wait until she turns sixteen, the day when uglies are transformed through high-tech cosmetic surgery into absolutely gorgeous pretties. Elegant, stylish pretties with no physical flaws, sparkling eyes flecked with gold or whatever colour you choose, smooth skin, perfect lips and so much more. In New Pretty Town, all you have to do is enjoy exhilarating fun in whatever form you choose; throwing a party at your mansion for example or ice skating as late as you want. Then Tally meets Shay, who isn't certain like most that she actually wants to undergo the operation. When Shay escapes from Uglyville into the unknown regions, Special Circumstances (the authorities) demand that Tally betray her friend by telling them everything she knows about Shay's plans or never become pretty. The decision Tally settles on alters the course of her life forever and she discovers that there's more to being pretty than what just meets the eye.
This novel was quite enjoyable, don't worry it's not about fashion or girly stuff at all. As you read, you get to observe how Tally's mountain of lies grow and grow by the "snowball" effect until her false pretence collapses into ruins.
