This is the most confusing yet compelling book i've ever read. It's about a boy called Josh (Joshua Garcia, 13) who found out his dad was murdered while looking for artifacts in Mexico. But nothing about his murder adds up. Josh's mom is having mental break downs and josh doesn't know what to think, until he uncovers a mayan artifact in his fathers office attached to a note saying burn it if i don't survive. The artifact is a letter but it is broken down the middle. Josh and his closest friends, Tyler (13) and Ollie (16), sit down and decipher the mayan hieroglyphs. Josh starts having a dream, right after his dad dies about a man choking to death on the side of a lake with swirl after swirl of mist so barely anything is visible. His last words are 'Summon the Bakab ix'. But what can Josh and his friends do from Oxford? And what is a Bakab Ix? questions haunt him and he cannot do anything about it in Oxford so they go to Mexico with his mom still in the hospital. What he finds out there is incredible but his tasks will get very hard seeing as his friends were put in custody and his newly-found long lost sister is gone. But it seems that everywhere he goes he has help. How do these people know where to take him? Do they know him?
this is my favorite read of the year
i recommend it
