"All the world's a stage. And all men and women actors"Shakespeare once said that in some speech in some play or other that he wrote and that's what Aya Fuse's city is like. Since the 'mind-rain', people don't get operations that secretly install brain lesions in them and those who have already undergone the bubblehead operation before are no longer insipid human beings with no creativity or imagination, all thanks to Tally Youngblood (the protagonist/main character in previous series). In Aya's city which is situated in Japan, fame is EVERYTHING. Basically, everyone has a face rank and the closer to 1 it is, the more popular you are and it's not just about that, celebrities can live in spacious mansions, enjoy luxurious parties, acquire stylish clothes that most people can't get anymore unless they earn merits through hard work and so much more. Everyone else is just an extra. Aya only has a face rank of 451, 369 but all that's gonna change. She'll do anything she can to become famous (including betraying peoples' trust) so when she starts hanging out with a clique who perform exhiliarating stunts and call themselves 'The Sly Girls', Aya knows that if she can manage to kick their story, her dreams will finally come true. And they do. Only that she gets more than she bargained for... Way more...
This novel was interesting as it continued with the Uglies sequence and the whole backgroung story is once again, quite original and now that I've read all four novels, I think that the best one is "Specials". If you're looking for an enjoyable-enough novel to boost your reading challenge score then this is the right book for you.
