Going For the Record

Going For The Record was a very touching story by Julie A. Swanson. A 16-year-old girl named Leah Weiczynkowski (her last name is super confusing) who found out that her dad had cancer and only had 3 more months left to live. I think that worst thing to have been told is how much longer you're going to live. When her father was diagnosed with cancer, Leah was making her way to the U18 National Soccer Championships which could have led her to the Olympics. This was her aim in life and everything came crashing down.

Since her dad used to be her "private driver" he went to every one of her matches and practices. Now that he was sick, she couldn't go anywhere and started missing some required matches for college. During the periods while she was at home taking care of her dad, she kept thinking what she would be doing if she were over at the game. All these thoughts kept dragging her down until she realized that all of it wasn't important anymore. Staying by her dad's side was the greatest thing she could have done at that moment.

You never know something is important to you until it's gone.
