Mrs.Bennet, the mother of Jane;Elizabeth;Mary;Catherine and Lydia is obssessed about getting her daughters married as soon as possible, preferably to wealthy and handsome men. The stroy is set in England, in the past when the rich often looked down on the less fortunate as they still might do so today. When Mr.Bingley settles in Netherfield, a short distance away from Longbourne where the Bennets reside, they quickly become acquainted with him upon the insistence of Mrs.Bennet, who's already fantasising about one of her children becoming a Mrs.Bingley. Jane and Mr.Bingley develop a relationship, however, his friend Mr.Darcy and his sisters don't approve due to Jane's lower social status. While Lydia and Kitty flirt with the officers from the regiment staying in town, Elizabeth meets the dashing Mr.Wickam who informs her about terrible deeds commited by Mr.Darcy who at the same time, becomes infatuated with Elizabeth and keeps on glancing at her. Is Wickam lying? Could he? Why would he? He seems so amiable and polite that it's hard to believe that. Throughout the rest of the story, Elizabeth discovers the true nature of Mr.Darcy who isn't really as haughty or arrogant as he seems and maybe she has feelings for him as well?
Since this novel is a classical, you have to read it more carefully to fully comprehend the meaning of some sentences and what's going on. It's NOT boring as I secretly expected it to be at first and it's also great for expanding your vocabulary.
Excellent to see such important and canonical books being read. Who else out there can read some classics?
